Are LED Bulbs Suitable for Fog Lights?

LED bulbs can be used in fog lights, but with some important considerations, as highlighted in the video. They certainly offer lower consumption and longer lifespan: the colour temperature is adjustable: cool white, selective yellow, etc., and they also provide instant lighting. However, there are issues; powerful LEDs project light straight ahead, reflecting off the fog like a white wall. Traditional fog lights have a wide, low beam to illuminate the road just in front of the bumper. Traditional fog lights use a specific reflector for the filament of an H11, H8, or H16 bulb; if you fit an LED with poorly positioned chips, the beam scatters instead of cutting through the fog; therefore, an LED with chips positioned exactly like the halogen filament (same geometry) is required. Selective yellow (3000K) is historically the best for fog: it reduces glare and increases contrast. Cool white (6000K) is only good for aesthetics but performs worse in real dense fog conditions.
