Why Does the AdBlue Warning Light Come On in Diesel Cars?

The red AdBlue warning light comes on when the AdBlue level in the dedicated tank is depleted. AdBlue (urea and deionised water) is injected into the exhaust gases to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions and comply with environmental regulations. If the tank is empty, the vehicle will not restart after the engine is turned off, to prevent exceeding emission limits. Stop as soon as possible and refill the AdBlue tank (not the diesel tank) before restarting. No technical intervention is required, just a simple refill. If the light comes on even with a full tank, there may be a fault with the sensor or system. In that case, consult an authorised workshop.
