The best methods to clean the particulate filter

The particulate filter (DPF) traps soot particles, but over time it can become clogged. There are three main cleaning methods, depending on the level of clogging. 1. Preventive additives: Bottles to pour into the diesel tank every 5,000 miles. They do not resolve an existing clog but slow down accumulation. 2. Hydrogen-oxygen (HHO): Equipment injects a mixture into the intake manifold, cleaning the DPF, EGR, and injectors. Effective for medium clogging, lasts about 2 hours. Moderate cost. 3. Washing with dedicated additives: The filter is cleaned by injecting specific additives inside without disassembly. Requires diagnostics, a ramp, and about half a day. Effective for medium to high clogging. Cost is higher than the previous method. 4. High-temperature oven (600-650°C): The filter is removed and placed in a special oven that oxidises the soot. This is the most expensive method (£700-£800), but it restores the filter to 100%. DIY washing with a pressure washer is highly discouraged as it can damage the structure.
