How a MAP Sensor Works

This description explains what a MAP sensor is and how it functions. This sensor provides the ECU with information on how much air enters the engine, making its proper operation essential. Based on the information the sensor communicates to the ECU, you may experience issues with irregular idle or stuttering during acceleration and/or deceleration. Typically, the MAP sensor is located at the back of the engine on the passenger side near the oil dipstick and is secured with two screws. To clean it, use a throttle body cleaner.

How to Open the Bonnet on the Lancia Y
