How to clean a throttle body yourself

Here's how to clean a throttle body: disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, allow the engine to cool; it may be necessary to remove the intake duct and airbox to access the component. Follow the ducts until you see the throttle (a metal disc inside an aluminium body). Take a photo of the connections: this will help with reassembly! Then disconnect the electrical connectors (sensors and actuators) and remove any vacuum hoses connected. Unscrew the fastening screws and extract the throttle body: spray the cleaner (such as Ambro-sol A469, available on Amazon with code B078Y2JXD1 for £11.05, with free delivery) inside and clean the inner wall, the throttle disc, and the internal ducts with a soft cloth, without forcing the movement of the throttle. Remove all carbon deposits until the surface is clean and smooth and the throttle moves without friction. Reassemble the throttle body with the fastening screws, reconnect the electrical connectors and vacuum hoses, reassemble the removed intake ducts, and reconnect the battery. On most modern cars, a relearning procedure is necessary: turn on the ignition, wait 30 seconds, turn off, wait a few minutes, then turn on and let it idle for a few minutes.
