What is the throttle body in a car engine?

The throttle body is a butterfly valve that allows the engine to breathe, regulating the amount of air that enters the engine cylinders. When the accelerator pedal is pressed, we are activating, either directly through a cable, or indirectly through an electronic signal, the throttle body actuation system. This rotates the butterfly, opening the duct and allowing a greater amount of air to enter the engine. A greater opening of the throttle body means greater engine power: conversely, if the throttle body is fully or partially closed, the engine power is reduced. When the accelerator pedal is not pressed, the throttle body is almost completely closed, but a small amount of air still passes through to allow the engine to idle.
