Is it true that the sports filter is better than the original? First, let’s see how to replace it. Disconnect the mass airflow sensor, detach the clips, and remove the filter housing. The vehicle we are examining already had a sports filter: these sports filters allow much more air to pass through compared to paper filters, as they lack the protective foam, while still effectively trapping impurities. The advantage is clear: it improves fuel combustion, is much less affected by humidity; you don’t need to replace it: just wash it and put it back (using its specific product, of course). Before refitting, it must be lubricated with a special product provided at purchase, applied sparingly, as it must not clog the mass airflow sensor, or you will have serious issues. It is very important to clean the housing where the filter is placed, but never with compressed air, as this could push debris into the intake duct or the mass airflow sensor. Instead, vacuum it or dust it off.
