How to understand the load index of the tires of the Volkswagen Transporter T5

The video excellently explains that we cannot choose the tires for our van based solely on the size (e.g. 275/35 R19) but we must also check those numbers that follow, which are the load index (LI) and speed index (SI). First, we must find the weight plate, which is usually located on the driver's door pillar, where we need to look for the maximum load value on the front axle (e.g. from the video 1550 kg) and the maximum load value on the rear axle (1600 kg). Each axle has two tires so we must divide this value by 2: so front 775 kg per tire and rear 800 kg per tire. Now we need a conversion table, which can easily be found on the internet. The load index (LI) of 775 kg is 99 and of 800 is 100. To find the speed index (SI) there are also tables. Check the tires we are currently using, if the ones we want to mount have a higher index they are fine; they are more robust. A lower index, on the other hand, is not good, they could overheat. The advice from the youtuber is essential: if our tires have a load index lower than that of the weight plate, we cannot load the van to its maximum legal weight: it could be very dangerous.
