How to Replace the Battery in a Volkswagen Golf

To replace the battery in a Volkswagen Golf, open the bonnet and locate the battery in the engine compartment, generally on the right side. Remove the protective cover above the battery. Using a 10 mm or 13 mm spanner, disconnect the negative terminal first and then the positive terminal. Loosen and remove the retaining bracket that secures the battery to the base. Carefully lift the old battery out of its housing. Insert the new battery in the same orientation, refit the bracket, and reconnect the terminals, starting with the positive and then the negative. Ensure the battery is stable and close the bonnet.
