How to Remove the Front Suspension on VW New Beetle

Are the shock absorbers on your New Beetle worn or damaged? Here’s how to remove them. Unscrew the shock absorber mounting bolts with a socket wrench, lift the car on a column lift, and remove the front wheel. Unscrew the shock absorber mounting bolts at the wheel hub (detach the brake line clips with a screwdriver). Remove the plastic cover under the windscreen; the shock absorbers are mounted underneath. Unscrew the bolts on the side, and pull the shock absorber out of its housing (place a support under the bar). Fit the new shock absorber and tighten all the bolts.
