How to Replace the Instrument Cluster Display in the VW Golf 5

It is now well known that many models of the VW have a fault with the instrument cluster display: some pixels no longer light up, and the text or warning symbols appear incomplete. However, this is a problem that can be easily repaired as both the replacement part is easy to obtain and to replace: it only requires a bit of skill and care; once the dial is removed from the dashboard, open the tabs to remove the front glass and access the display; then lift the clips holding the flat cable in place and lift the display sideways to remove it and insert the new one, ensuring the flat cable is placed in its designated slot before closing the clips and reapplying the front glass.
