How to Remove the Instrument Cluster Including the Speedometer

Model: Volkswagen Touareg MK 1, 7L - Years 2002-2010

This tutorial explains how to remove the instrument cluster, including the speedometer, from the dashboard of a Volkswagen Touareg. First, remove the trim around the ignition lock by unclipping it with a plastic spatula. Do the same with the panel on the opposite side of the steering wheel. At this point, two screws will be revealed that secure the plastic support at the base of the instrument panel. The next step is to remove the plastic cover above the dashboard. Unscrew the two screws that are exposed, and you will be able to take off the upper cover of the instrument cluster. By removing a second upper cover, you will finally be able to extract the cluster: disconnect its two electrical connections and you are done.
