How to Replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor of the Volkswagen Golf 4

The coolant temperature sensor is located on the right side of the engine, at the water outlet from the cylinder head. It is housed in a plastic body and held in place by a U-shaped tab. Before working on the cooling system, it is advisable to drain the coolant, recover it, and dispose of it according to regulations; at the same time, refill the system with new coolant, the specifications of which are found in the owner's manual. Once you have located the sensor, remove the fixing tab and pull it out. Then, detach the remaining gasket from the housing and the electrical connector. Take the new sensor with its new O-ring and refit it by reversing the disassembly procedure. Finally, refill the cooling system, ensuring to properly bleed the air, start the engine, and check for any leaks.
