Replacing the Neutral Safety Switch

Model: Volkswagen Passat 3BG, B5 - Years 1996-2005

On vehicles equipped with an automatic gearbox, there is a switch that allows the display on the instrument cluster to show which gear is engaged via the gear lever; this switch can become faulty and needs replacing: fortunately, it is readily available in the aftermarket and can be a DIY job; however, to access the switch, you must remove the gearbox support: place a jack under the gearbox to support it during the removal of the support, and once removed, unscrew the mounting screws of the sensor and disconnect the connector; then fit the new one and proceed in reverse for reassembly.
