The problem arises because even after changing the clutch and release bearing, the issue persisted. Therefore, the focus shifted to the primary shaft of the gearbox, which has a large thrust bearing at its end. The play that has developed between the parts is excessive, so you should replace the bearing and the bush to restore the original tolerance of the bush fitted in the cover of the box within which the bearing of the primary shaft rotates. The wear of the parts has caused the couplings to go out of tolerance, increasing both axial and radial play, resulting in the shaft operating in a misaligned condition, generating vibrations and noise easily confused with those produced by a damaged flywheel. Unfortunately, these spare parts are only available from the Volkswagen network, although the cost is not excessive.
