Differential failure in an Audi A3 8L is an uncommon issue, but it can occur for various reasons. The first is wear of the satellites or crown: if the teeth of the gears (satellites, planetaries, or crown) are worn or chipped, the differential loses synchronisation: you will hear a metallic clicking noise when turning, vibrations under load, and gearbox oil with metallic fragments. Another reason could be the fracture of the differential cage if the vehicle has undergone mechanical stress (sudden jerks, aggressive tuning). Lack of lubrication, leading to overheating and accelerated wear, as well as impact damage from an accident, cannot be ruled out as causes.
