Differences between the Torsen differential and the Haldex differential on Audi Quattro.

Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive system is associated with Torsen and Haldex differentials, and refers to a family of all-wheel drive systems that Audi has developed over the years: the system with a mechanical locking center differential that uses a Torsen differential to distribute torque between the front and rear axles; the version with lamella technology uses a lamella thermal-hydraulic clutch to disconnect the rear axle in normal driving conditions, improving fuel efficiency; the version with electric torque vectoring distributes torque not only between the axles, but also between the individual rear wheels, further improving driving dynamics. But let's talk about the differences between Torsen and Haldex: Torsen is a mechanical locking differential. This means that it distributes torque to the wheels automatically and continuously, based on the traction of each wheel. It works by exploiting the friction between the helical gears, which transmit torque in proportion to the slip of one wheel compared to the other. Haldex, on the other hand, is a multidisc clutch locking differential. Under normal conditions, most of the torque is sent to the front wheels. When a wheel slips, an electronic control unit activates a pump, which increases oil pressure, tightening the clutch discs and transferring torque to the rear axle.
