How do you reset the Service indicator light on the BMW 5 Series?

The Service indicator that is shown on the instrument panel of the BMW 5 Series must be turned on by turning on the instrument panel, inserting the ignition key into the corresponding slot: when the instrument panel is turned on, you can repeatedly press the button located on the left side of the panel until the maintenance message appears. At this point, you can press and hold the button for a few seconds, so that the Service indicator disappears from the instrument panel: the button can now be released to turn off the instrument panel.
