How to Replace the Hood Struts on a BMW 3 Series

How do you replace the hood struts? Let's see how to replace the gas springs mounted inside the hood of a BMW 3 Series. Lift the hood and secure it. Use a screwdriver to detach the metal clips that hold the worn strut at both ends (or remove the mounting bolts). Install the new strut on the vehicle and secure it with the metal clips/bolts. Repeat the same process for the removal/installation of the other strut. Finally, test the gas springs previously installed.

As shown, the filter is positioned at the lower part of the engine, right between the left half-shaft and the sway bar attachment. To replace the filter, first, go underneath the vehicle, taking all necessary safety precautions. Then, using an 18mm wrench, open the drain valve and allow any water present to escape. Next, unscrew the housing, remove the old filter, insert the replacement along with a new gasket, and reassemble everything.
