How to install an A/C condenser protection net on the BMW i3.

The BMW i3 has a large lower air intake under the bumper, which feeds an A/C condenser and the radiator. Being very low, it is exposed to stones kicked up by the wheels, road debris, leaves, and dirt. Damage to the condenser causes refrigerant loss, which is a very expensive repair. A mesh is a simple and economical protection. We can find a simple rigid polypropylene mesh 40x60 with a thickness of 3/4 mm at any hardware store. We will also need cable tie saddles. It is not necessary to lift the car, but to fully turn the front wheels toward the opposite side of where we are working. We measure the opening; the mesh should be slightly larger to overlap the edges. We position the mesh from the inside through the wheel arch, in front of the condenser opening, resting it on the edges of the bodywork. We insert the cable ties into the holes of the vehicle's structure, passing them through the holes in the mesh, avoiding puncturing the condenser and its fins. We secure the mesh at least in 6 points: the mesh must be well taut. We cut the tails of the cable ties and ensure that the mesh does not touch the fins of the condenser.
