Adding Antifreeze to the Engine Radiator

Model: BMW Serie 5 E39 - Years 1995-2003
Part: Antifreeze coolant

In extremely cold temperatures, it is advisable to add antifreeze to the radiator to prevent engine damage. Mark the original position of the expansion tank cap with a marker and then remove it. Using a screwdriver, open the relief valve located on the left side of the tank's opening. To open it, simply turn the screw until it is removed. Add antifreeze until it reaches the relief valve. Close the valve and replace the cap on the expansion tank, aligning it with the reference marks made earlier. Start the engine and let it run until the thermostat opens. When the engine is hot, slightly open the relief valve to release any air bubbles and keep it open until antifreeze flows out, identifiable by its blue color. Close the valve immediately afterward.
