How to Remove Glow Plugs Without Breaking Them

This video shows how to remove glow plugs from a BMW N47 engine without breaking them. We know how problematic it can be if a glow plug breaks inside the cylinder. Spray WD-40 on the glow plugs while the engine is warm and repeat this for a few days before the intervention. Locate the electrical connectors; if necessary, remove the intake connector for better access. Use a long 10 mm socket. It is important never to force it. If you feel resistance, stop and spray more WD-40: proceed with small alternating movements to loosen the buildup. The secret is to be patient and gentle: glow plugs only break if you rush or use too much force. When installing the new ones, apply some anti-seize on the threads and do not exceed the torque (usually under 20 Nm).
