To replace the handbrake button on a BMW X5, use a tool to pry off the trim that surrounds the center console. Once removed, proceed to loosen the screws that secure the panel where the handbrake button is installed.

The button can now be removed by disconnecting the connector underneath and unscrewing the screws that hold the old button to the panel. The new replacement button can then be secured to the panel; at this point, reconnect the connector, secure the panel, and reposition the trim.
