How to Replace the Battery on a Chevrolet Impala

To replace the battery yourself on this vehicle, follow the instructions below. After opening the hood, locate the battery on the right side behind the headlight. First, disconnect the negative terminal, then the positive terminal. Next, remove the nuts securing the upper bracket and unscrew the bolt holding the lower bracket. This will allow you to remove the battery and replace it with a new one. Reconnect the positive terminal first, then the negative terminal, and reattach the lower bracket and upper crossmember.
