The symptoms are well known: a crumbling belt, oil pump blockage, pressure loss, engine protection mode. Damage can be assessed without disassembling the entire engine, through the oil cap or a camera. It can be repaired by replacing only the belt, the tensioner, the oil pump (not always), and cleaning the circuit, without having to rebuild the engine each time. This way, the cost is lower (if action is taken before the engine is destroyed). Remember, this system is not a curse; it is a poorly designed system. Preventive maintenance is essential! On these engines, the belt should be checked every 12,000-18,000 miles and replaced every 37,000-50,000 miles (not every 62,000-75,000 miles as stated in the manual).
