In order to replace the gear knob of the Citroën C3, you need to pry it off with an object like a screwdriver, so that you can detach the plastic cover at the base of the lever. Once this cover is removed, you can lift the leather boot that surrounds the lever and then widen the ring at the base of the knob. Once this ring is removed, you can completely detach the knob and then insert the new one onto the lever: you will now need to secure it with the ring and reattach the lever cover.
