How and when to recharge the car air conditioner

In this video, we can understand that the car air conditioning system is a component of the vehicle like the others, and that it is subject to maintenance like all the others. The gas inside the system has a lifespan of about three years, after which it must be checked and possibly recharged, because it usually starts to lose efficiency. Like every component, it depends on how and how much it is used, so it might last 5 years, or it could be depleted after two. This operation cannot be done DIY, because it requires specific equipment, but we need to remember to perform periodic checks, just like for the engine oil or the engine coolant (or like the cabin filter, which evidently had not been changed in this vehicle for years).
