Today, I will explain how to replace the gear selector cable on a Fiat Grande Punto vehicle. The cable runs from the gear lever inside the cabin to the gearbox underneath the car. To replace the cable, you need to remove the gear knob and gaiter. Remove the screws securing the cable support to the lever and disconnect the cable from the gear lever. Remove the retaining clips that hold the cable in place inside the gearbox. Before installing the new cable, it is important to compare it with the old one to ensure that the length and ends are the same. Insert the start of the cable into the gearbox securing it to the supports, then route the cable inside the cabin through the gear lever, repositioning the clips. After fitting the gaiter and gear knob, before lowering the car, move the gear lever to ensure that each gear engages correctly. Then lower the car to the ground and take it for a test drive to ensure there are no issues.
