In this video, see how to replace the broken gear shift cable on a Grande Punto. The broken part is the Bowden cable, which contains a metal cable with mechanical linkages. To remove it, go under the vehicle, where you will find a pressure plate that supports the linkage; remove it and locate the torn cable, then remove all the clips holding it. Finally, you will have the cable in hand and can see that it has indeed snapped; it must be replaced. Now, place the new cable into the sheath and refit it, ensuring it is well greased and connect it on the other side.
