Fiat Punto 1.2 - Timing Belt Replacement

In this video, discover how to replace the timing belt on your Punto 1.2. This operation is both economical and vital for your engine, so pay MAXIMUM attention. The video shows the engine already disassembled and prepared on a stand to explain the timing point for disassembly, but don't worry, you can make space and access the belt while leaving the engine in your bonnet, using a wooden or rubber support under the sump as you will need to remove the engine mount and the plastic cover protecting the belt. Once you reach the timing cover, rotate the engine by turning the crankshaft nut and position the references as shown in the video. Now, loosen the tensioner and slide off the belt. It is highly recommended, but not strictly required, to also replace the water pump. If you decide to replace this component, remember not to install the belt or refill the engine with the previously removed coolant until the sealant for the pump has solidified. Proceed to install the timing belt, respecting the direction of rotation and the markings on the belt corresponding to the references on the pulleys and the block. Tighten the tensioner and check the tension with a frequency meter if you have one; otherwise, use a more empirical method based on the twist of the belt, which should be about 45°. Turn the engine a couple of times using the crankshaft nut and check the tension again. Reverse the disassembly steps for reassembly, and you're done: great job!
