How to replace the steering heads in a Fiat 500

Model: Fiat 500 312 - Years 2007-2022
Part: Tie rods

In this video tutorial we can see how it is possible to replace the steering heads in a Fiat 500: get on board the car, turn off the car and remove the key, pull the handbrake. Loosen the front wheel bolts, without unscrewing them completely; lift the front of the car with a hydraulic jack and put safety jack stands. Fully unscrew the wheel bolts and remove the wheel and place it under the vehicle. Use release agent to assist in removing the steering head. Make a mark with the marker between the connecting rod and the steering head. Use an adjustable wrench to loosen the head support nut. Use a size 17 wrench to loosen the steering head retaining nut. Use a hammer to tap the nut hard. Unscrew the head paying attention to the mark, then count the number of turns to remove it. With a caliper, measure the distance between the jam nut and the end of the connecting rod. Remove the connecting rod jam nut. Reposition the new head making it do the number of turns it took to unscrew it. Reassemble the head in the pin and tighten the nut.
