How do you remove the tailgate gas struts on a Ford Focus? Follow this video to replace the struts on a tailgate: Lift the tailgate and secure it. Use a screwdriver to remove the metal securing clips located at both ends of the strut. Detach the worn strut and fit the new piece into the two mounts. Secure the strut with the metal clips. Repeat the same process for the removal/installation of the other strut. Finally, test the strut's operation (open and close the tailgate).
