Start by lifting the vehicle and removing the wheel. If the rust wear is significant, prepare the drum for removal by knocking off the internal rust with a hammer. This is a lengthy but essential task. After that, using plenty of lubricant and some brute force, extract the drum and examine the brake shoes. The return spring is held in place by a clip that you will remove later; first, you need to take out the two pins at the centre of each shoe to free them. Once done, simply remove both the upper and lower springs to extract the linings.
