Tightening the Handbrake on Ford Fiesta 2017

Except for cars with electronic devices, the operation of the handbrake on standard cars with a lever consists of a system of steel cables connected to calipers and drums that allow for their locking. The tension of the cables is controlled by the lever, which may loosen over time. It’s easy to tell; the lever will feel loose and very soft. To tighten the cables on a Ford Fiesta, here’s how to do it. The first step is to remove the centre console. There are no screws, so you will need to pull it out manually by moving it sideways to release the clips. The bolt to tighten is located at the base of the lever, at the front. You will now need a 10mm socket spanner to tighten the bolt just enough. Make two or three adjustments while tightening to find the right stiffness of the lever; over-tightening will keep the car braked.
