How to Reset the BMS on a Ford Focus MK3

On Ford vehicles, the BMS is the battery management system that monitors the battery's condition and intervenes to prolong its life by disabling certain electrical functions if necessary. This system must be reset every time the battery is changed or when using a charger to recharge the existing battery. The system will remember that the battery is flat. You can avoid this issue by leaving the vehicle off for at least eight hours or by performing the reset; in any case, the vehicle must have been off for at least 30 minutes. Turn the key to the ON position and wait for the battery warning light to flash at least 5 times; press and release the brake pedal 3 times. After 5 to 10 seconds, the light should turn off. You may need to repeat the operation, but allow the system to cool down for 30 minutes.
