Honda Civic - Video tutorial

Model: Honda Civic MK 6 - Years 1995-2001
Part: Drive shaft
Operation: How to replace front axle

To replace the front axle, you must first raise the car for the first time to remove the front wheels. Remove the wheels and remove the hub cap by pushing from the rear of the wheel with the help of a tool handle. Then reassemble the wheels with just two nuts and remember to pull the handbrake. Now with the appropriate wrench and a tube to be used as an extension loosen the nut. Continue by completely unscrewing the nut after you have lifted the car and removed the wheel. To get the axle out of the hub in case you need to use a hammer, in order not to damage the thread, you should screw the nut back on. Now you have to unscrew the lower arm of the suspension by removing the safety pin first. There are several methods but it is not always possible to loosen the nuts so you can hit the free part with a heavy hammer that is the lower arm and bring out the brake plate that you can tie on one side so that it cannot create an obstacle. Now placing a container that collects the oil under the transmission, lever and rotate several times in both directions until the axle is completely extracted. If the boot does not pass so as not to have to unscrew other nuts, you can simply remove the boot from the joint. Clean up excess grease that could damage the rubber of the cuff. Before reinstalling the new axle, carefully check that the spare part is exactly the same as the one you just removed. Then reinsert the axle by rotating it in both directions as you did previously. Then reposition the hub with the brake plate by screwing the nut and screw the lower arm of the suspension again.
