A hidden feature of the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

What we are describing is a hidden feature of the Ioniq 5 (and very likely of other models from the Kia/Hyundai group with paddles on the steering wheel). By holding down the left paddle, which is for regenerative braking, the car activates the maximum possible regeneration and brings the vehicle to a complete stop (down to 0 km/h) without using the mechanical brakes. It keeps the car stationary until the paddle is released or the accelerator is pressed (so it functions similarly to Auto Hold, but activated by the paddle). This is useful because it reduces wear on the mechanical brakes and is helpful when going downhill or approaching traffic lights, as well as maximizing energy recovery during braking. However, we should note that in some situations, it does not activate the brake lights; if the regenerative braking is gentle, the lights may not turn on.
