How to replace the gear lever sleeve of an Iveco Daily MK4

Let's see how to solve the problem of imprecise shifting on an Iveco Daily MK4. The plastic sphere at the base of the gear lever wears out, causing excessive play and imprecise shifting. The solution is to replace the sleeve and often also the lower gasket. It is not a difficult job, it just requires a little patience. Remove the rubber cover that covers the base of the gear lever in the cabin, and unscrew the screw at the base of the lever. Now we can remove the lever. We will see the old sleeve that houses the metal cup. Insert a flathead screwdriver between the edge of the sleeve and the metal seat, and move it slowly until it lifts. With patience, the sleeve will come out of its seat, and it may even break during removal, but it is not a problem. Clean the metal seat from any grease and dirt residue, place the gasket, grease it generously (use high-quality grease); place the sleeve and press it forcefully into its seat: this is the most difficult part. If it doesn't go in by hand, use a piece of wood and gently tap with a rubber hammer, evenly on all sides to get it in straight. Once it is in, fit the gear lever onto the mechanism's sphere; put the screw back at the base of the lever, and reassemble the base cover.
