How Adaptive Cruise Control Works on an Iveco Stralis

The system known as ACC (adaptive cruise control) does not just maintain a constant speed but automatically adjusts the truck's speed to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, measured in metres. There is a radar mounted on the front bumper that detects the presence, safe distance, and relative speed of the vehicle in front. On the cruise control stalk, there is a selector that allows you to choose from 4 distance levels: level 1: 15/20 m; level 2: 25/30 m; level 3: 40/50 m; level 4: 60/70 m, which is ideal for motorways at high speed when fully loaded. Activate the cruise by pressing "set" or "ACC ON", select the desired speed, and use the selector (GAP) to increase or decrease the distance in metres; on the dashboard display, you will see the distance in metres or a bar with notches. If the vehicle in front slows down, the ACC also reduces speed, coming to a complete stop if necessary; otherwise, it maintains a constant speed in the absence of obstacles. The heavy mass of the Stralis requires greater distances compared to a car; the ACC does not replace the driver's attention. Note that the ACC does not function in heavy rain, thick fog, or if the sensor is dirty.
