The Jeep Compass, even with just the internal combustion engine, has two batteries: the primary one is usually located in the engine compartment and powers the starting, infotainment, lights, ECU, and all main electrical systems: it is the standard battery that provides energy to the starter motor to start the engine, so it is an AGM or EFB battery.

The auxiliary battery is located near the primary one or under the passenger seat (depending on the vehicle version).

This battery supports the electronic systems when the Start & Stop is active. It maintains power to the radio, air conditioning, and other functions while the engine is off at traffic lights.

It is less prone to wear compared to the primary battery but can discharge if the car remains stationary for long periods.
