Check the Operation of the Automatic Gearbox Solenoid

To perform this type of maintenance, you need appropriate diagnostic equipment, the wiring diagrams for the vehicle, and adequate experience: only if you have already dealt with certain fault scenarios can you consider tackling a problem like that of the automatic gearbox. On this vehicle, it occurs that shifting the gear lever into drive selects only fourth gear, and when checking the fault memory, the diagnosis points to a solenoid issue. Experience teaches that the first thing to check is the power supply to the solenoid itself: with the wiring diagram in hand, measure the supply voltage at the relevant pins; if you find a value below 12 volts, then there is a power supply issue likely coming from the fuse box and relay: the problem lies in the relay supplying power to the solenoid, and replacing it resolves the issue. If you had only focused on the diagnostic indication, you would have inappropriately replaced a part that is, moreover, not inexpensive.
