This video demonstrates how to open the rear tailgate that is stuck on a Jeep Cherokee XJ: this is a problem that unfortunately occurs frequently on this model. It is a matter of adjustment that can be resolved, but the issue is: how do you get inside to make the adjustment? You need to enter through the rear door, fold down the seat, and as shown in the video, the plastic inside the tailgate makes it impossible to reach the lock.

Carefully take the inner trim from the edge of the rear window and pull it towards you. This will give you access to the opening mechanism, where you need to move the white plastic lock that is stuck, shifting it to the left and then upwards: this way you will have unlocked the tailgate, open it, remove all the plastic parts, and make the necessary adjustments.
