Carbon Fibre Sill for Lotus Elise

Lotus Elise models have a very high and wide side sill, making it difficult to enter and exit the car; passengers tend to scrape their feet or sit on the edge, damaging it. In the video, we see that the two carbon fibre sills are damaged, chipped, yellowed, and have a visible crack. A paint remover is used, but it does not work as the epoxy paint layer is resistant to the product; sanding is attempted, but it is discovered that there are four layers of clear coat over a thin layer of carbon applied on a fibreglass base. An alternative must be found: either apply a real carbon coating with clear epoxy resin and then polish (which must be done well); or wrap it with quality carbon look film, which is scratch-resistant. This is an economical alternative that is easy to replace if damaged. Otherwise, one can opt for the uncompromising solution: aftermarket parts in real carbon, which are certainly expensive. Alternatively, a different and original solution is to completely change the look and go for machined aluminium, Kevlar fibre, or leather/alcantara.
