Idle Adjustment and Timing

Model: Mazda Mx 5 NB, MK 2 - Years 1998-2005
Part: Fuel injectors

Idle adjustment and timing are absolutely essential for the engine to perform at its best. Generally, the idle should run the engine at about 800 rpm: on the throttle body, in front of the intake manifold, you can see a rubber cap under which the idle adjustment screw is located; adjust the screw until the correct idle setting is achieved. Similarly, you can check the timing (the point at which the ignition occurs relative to the piston position) using a strobe light: the light should be powered and connected to a spark plug lead; the flashing light will allow you to see the movements of the crankshaft pulley, verifying the alignment of the timing marks.
