How to Adjust the Idle on a Mazda MX-5

In this video, see how to adjust the idle on a Mazda MX-5: the procedure described is valid if there are no other issues affecting proper operation. The vehicle must be at operating temperature (without starting the radiator fans), and all electronic devices must be disconnected. Open the bonnet and locate the diagnostic connector, positioned to the right of the engine bay, then you will also need the screw that adjusts the throttle opening. Using a paperclip or wire, short the pin of the diagnostic connector to ground. This way, the ECU will no longer intervene in the electronic idle adjustment, and it will be reserved solely for the throttle opening. You will notice the engine RPM rising or falling. The target to reach in this case is about 8,020 RPM, and you will adjust the throttle screw accordingly: turning clockwise will decrease the RPM, while turning counterclockwise will increase them. The tachometer variance is about 100, so keep that in mind if you are estimating. When you have reached the desired value, you can remove the jumper and take it for a test drive.
