Replacing Rear Brake Shoes

Model: Mazda 3 BK, MK 1 - Years 2003-2009

Before proceeding with the removal of the brake shoes, obtain the specific tool to retract the caliper piston: this is a socket with two pins to insert into the designated holes on the piston to rotate it for retraction. Lift the vehicle on suitable axle stands and remove the wheel; detach the retaining spring on the side of the caliper and unscrew the relevant fixing pins; extract the old shoes and retract the caliper piston using the specific tool. Then apply the new shoes, reinstall the caliper, the spring, and adjust the handbrake cable if necessary.
