Mercedes Classe E - Video tutorial

Model: Mercedes Classe E W124 - Years 1984-1995
Part: Shock absorbers
Operation: Rear shock absorber replacement

Raise the car at the wheel on which to carry out the repair until the tire is slightly detached from the ground: it is not necessary to remove the wheel (for safety, apply a special car stand). As a first step, open the rear hood and remove the internal side trim until you can see the shock absorber fixing pin: lock the stem, unscrew the fixing nuts and extract the rubber. Now go under the car: move the rear suspension cover and unscrew the bolt securing the shock absorber to the swinging arm. Then push the shock absorber piston back in and extract it from its seat. Then apply the new shock absorber in the reverse order: lock the lower part to the swinging arm by re-hooking the relative cover, insert the stem in the upper seat, apply the rubber pad, the washer and tighten the fixing nut (locking the stem) and the counter nut. Refit the interior trim.
