How to Unlock a Stuck ZF Gearbox in P on a Mercedes

In this video, you will see an emergency procedure to unlock the ZF automatic gearbox of a Mercedes vehicle that is stuck in "P". You need to locate the emergency mechanical release hole, which is hidden under a small plastic or rubber cap. The position varies from model to model, but it is generally on the side of the gearbox, near the selector lever, or it may be found in the gearbox tunnel, under the glove compartment. You will need a 6 mm hex bolt, 50-60 mm long. Remove the protective cap, insert the bolt pushing it down: you will feel resistance as you compress a spring that releases the gearbox locking pin. While holding the bolt down, you can move the gear lever to "N". Now you can remove the bolt. This procedure is designed exclusively for emergencies; it is not a repair, and the fault must be properly diagnosed.
