Replacing Rear Wheel Hub Bearings

Model: Mercedes Slk R170, MK 1 - Years 1997-2004

Lift the vehicle on a hoist or on suitable axle stands and remove the rear wheel. Then remove the brake caliper and the brake disc to access the shoes. Remove the adjuster and the retaining springs of the shoes to take them off. Unscrew the retaining nut of the driveshaft from the hub and the flange fixing pins to remove the driveshaft itself. Use a hammer puller to remove the hub flange, detach the circlip that secures the bearing to the hub seat, and complete the extraction of the bearing with the hammer puller. Clean the bearing seat thoroughly and insert the new bearing using the old bearing as a buffer. Insert the circlip to secure the bearing in its seat and proceed in reverse to reassemble everything previously removed (use a threaded bar with washers and nuts to insert the hub flange), paying attention to the shoe springs.
