Shifter Knob Replacement Instructions

Model: Mercedes Sl MK 5, R129 - Years 1989-2001

It's quite common for the shifter knob (as well as the steering wheel cover) to become worn or even sticky and uncomfortable to touch. You can replace it with an original or aftermarket type. To remove it, you need to detach the trim around the shifter lever, pull out the storage compartment from the center console to also remove the tunnel and console cover. At this point, unclip the panel that shows the shifter position indicators to access the retaining nut of the knob and then unscrew it from its seat. Proceed in reverse for the installation of the new one.
